Join us for an evening Ride to North Shields, ferry crossing to South Shields, (free!) award winning chippy at Colmans, and return via the Tyne Tunnel!

We’re meeting outside at Recyke y’Bike at 5.30pm for a standard bike safety check before setting off at 5.45pm via the renewed section of the Hadrian’s Way Cycleway – Route 72 – towards North Shields. Once arrived in North Shields, we will take the ferry crossing to South Shields where an award winning chippy awaits us! Time depending, we might stop at South Shields’ lovely promenade and take in the views of the extensive ruins of Tynemouth Priory. Because sometimes it’s good to look at things from the other side! 🙂

We can now call ourselves the “Fish and Chippy Cyclists” and are ready to head back to Recyke y’bike via Britain’s first purpose-built cycling tunnel, a historic gem, the Pedestrian and Cyclist Tyne Tunnel! The route is mainly flat with a couple of short, easy hills and predominantly on segregated cycle lanes.

You will need a roadworthy bike, a helmet, appropriate clothing, a spare inner tube and water to keep you hydrated. Don’t worry if you don’t have everything, we have spare items and are happy to lend them out if needed! We are pleased to share that this ride is fully funded by Recyke y’bike and Off The Grid Adventures so the ferry tickets and the fish and chips are free!

It is an easy going ride with the aim to enjoy ourselves, support each other, and make women feel more confident riding their bikes. The ride will have no set speed, we will go at a pace that suits everyone! To book a free space, please click here.

If you have any questions about the ride, don’t hesitate to contact me, Vee, community engagement manager for Off the Grid Adventures CIC, who will be leading the ride in partnership with Vanessa from Recyke y’Bike.
