Support Us

Donate y’bike, y’time or y’cash! Recyke y’bike is a charity. We’ve been established since 2006 and generate the majority of income through sales of refurbished bikes and servicing bikes. We’re passionate about getting more people on bikes; our work would not be possible without the support of donors and volunteers.

Donate y’bike – whatever its condition!

The easiest way to donate your bike is to pop along to our Byker or Chester le Street locations during store hours.

We’ll gratefully take your bike off your hands and either repair it for resale or donation, pass it on to partners, Key Enterprises or Deerbolt Prison or strip it for parts and recycle what can’t be reused.

In this short video, we gives you a behind the scenes tour so you can see how your donated bike is processed.

Unfortunately we aren’t able to pick up bikes for donation. However… you can drop your bikes off at two Northumberland locations:

Donate y’time

We always need volunteers to help in our Byker and Durham shops. We even have a Young Volunteers Club at Byker for under 18’s! Volunteers can help us in different ways: from building bikes to stripping them for parts, from helping us deliver outreach work to helping us in the shop…you could also volunteer for special events only! We don’t require a minimum amount of hours and aim to be as inclusive as possible, so everyone can feel welcome. At the moment, we are desperately looking for someone who can commit to driving the van to pick-up and deliver bikes twice a month (this is a whole day activity). If you’d like to volunteer please complete the online application form. Under 18’s please visit the Young Volunteers Club page. For more information about volunteering at Recyke y’bike read this testimonial or check out our Volunteering Policy 2020

Donate y’cash

If you want to simply give us cash instead of bikes or time, that’s fine. Your cash will help pay for parts and labour for bikes which we donate to people on very low incomes. It will also support our community outreach work. You can drop your spare change into any of our shops, or you can make a donation via Just Giving, which accepts regular credit & debit cards and processes Gift Aid.

Keep up to date
