Role: To manage the operation and development of Recyke y’Bike in line with the charity’s aims and its business plan, maintaining its ethos and environmental vision. Recyke y’ bike is a highly successful charity which has grown steadily over its 16 years of operation to play a key role in sustainable transport in the North East of England. We have a mission to get people cycling safely and affordably on re-used bicycles and an ambition to teach as many people as possible how to carry out their own repairs and maintenance. We provide a variety of community outreach initiatives including work with schools and youth groups, regular street repair shops in low income areas, women only sessions and a Young Volunteer Club. We offer maintenance classes and have a very well used bike referral scheme enabling people on very low incomes to be referred for a free bike to help with transport costs as well as physical and/or mental health. Our team of 10 trained mechanics and 60+ active volunteers fix up bikes donated by the public for resale and provide a growing training and repair service. Refurbished bikes are sold at reasonable prices to the public in our retail outlets in Byker and Chester le Street. The position is permanent with 33 days holiday entitlement, 5% employer pension contribution and flexible working. Some evening and weekend work is required.
